From soups to roasts, side dishes, and sweet desserts, these recipes bring a taste of Germany’s Osterfest to your table. Whether you're serving a lamb dinner, baking a bienenstich, or preparing a fresh spring soup, these classics make Easter extra special.
Easter in Germany has its fair share of charm. There are flowers on the table, chocolate bunnies tucked into corners, and of course, the mouth-watering fragrance of traditional German Easter recipes filling the house.
But before the cooking begins and the eggs get hidden (and lost—every year!), we start where it matters most: at church, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. That’s the heart of Easter, and everything else — the food, the family, the frosting — is just icing on the cake, or, in this case, the Osterlamm. There’s a mild debate over whether the Osterlamm cake should be dusted with powdered sugar or not (for the record, I say yes).
These recipes aren’t just about tradition. They’re about gathering around the table, full of joy, laughing, and making sure no one leaves without at least one slice of cake and a full heart. Frohe Ostern!
This Easter lamb cake is a sweet and symbolic treat that’s been part of our family’s celebration for generations.
Mine is chocolate, not fully traditional, but our favorite. It’s a lovely centerpiece for the Easter table -- and so easy to make!
Try it out and create a delicious tradition your family will look forward to every spring.
